The Secretariat

The Secretariat assists the President of the German Bishops’ Conference with the preparation of Plenary Assemblies and Permanent Council meetings and with the execution of resolutions passed by these boards. It is headed by the General Secretary of the German Bishops’ Conference.

The Secretariat of the German Bishops’ Conference comprises four major departments: "Doctrine and Education", "Pastoral Care", "Church and Society" and "International Church Affairs and Migration".

Each department supports several episcopal commissions, preparing meetings and resolutions and maintaining relations with relevant groups, institutions and associations. As a rule, the head of a department at the same time serves as secretary to the affiliated commission.
